Nepal the Country of Mount Everest and Buddha

Standard

I was sitting on my bed thinking about my family and where they came from. The history of that place, called Nepal, their home, my home. In this essay I will share information and my own connection about Nepal . I know I will learn a lot, and I promise to share my learning with others. In this show and tell I am going to write about a few subjects that really stand out to me about Nepal.

Nepal’s Flag

When I looked through the book, “Atlas of the world” for flags, I can find Nepal’s flag easily. It is the most unique flag in the world, because it is in a triangular shape, and all other flags are rectangular. So many flags are similar to other flags. But Nepal’s flag is very, very different. On Nepal’s flag the border is blue, and the background is red. In the middle there is an image of the sun and the moon. But still I had some questions like

  • What does the blue and red mean?
  • What does the sun and moon mean?

I went on the internet and researched. Seems like, the blue border resembles peace. No wars, no fighting. The red background stands for the national flower of Nepal – Rhododendron. Red also stands for braveness. The sun means eternity, and the moon means harmony.

Interesting fact: Nepal is an independent country, and has never been colony of any foreign country in its entire history.

Mt. Everest

Everyone says that Nepal is a small country, but I disagree with that statement. To me, Nepal is the biggest country in the world. Why? Because it is the home to the tallest mountain in the world – Mount Everest (Sagarmatha) . Mt. Everest is 29,029 feet tall. It was first located by Sir George Everest. That’s how Mt. Everest got its name. Did you know Mt. Everest grows 1.6 to 3.9 inches taller each year? Isn’t that amazing? Although, Mt. Everest does not grow by magic, shifting tectonic plates push Mt. Everest up. Mt. Everest was first climbed in 1953 by Tensing Norgay from Nepal and Edmond Hillary from New Zealand.

Surprising fact: Mauna Kea in Hawaii is taller than Mt .Everest. But this is only right if you measure the mountain from the ocean floor.

Nepalese way of Marriage

People get married in different ways around the world. I am fascinated how traditional marriage happens in Nepal. It’s usually arranged by the parents – based on the traditional values and wellness. I also like the marriage costumes. The bride wears a red sari and a matching veil and lots of gold necklaces, a pair of gold earrings, and bangles. The groom wears Daura-Suruwal and a Topi [hat] and Mala (necklace made out of grass and of flowers ). The bride and the groom also exchange rings. They play Panche Baja (traditional musical instruments).

Conclusion

I enjoyed writing this essay. I learned many things about Nepal that I did not know before. As I promised in the beginning, I will share my knowledge with others.

Friendship

Standard

When you are looking for a friend, you might want to concider knowing the meaning of friendship.

Friendship, means a trust, and kindness between one or more people. You need friends in your life, or you could say that survival would be impossible. Sometimes, friends are even more important that your family. You need your friends in almost everything you do.

In your life you will run into many different types for friends, and your job is to keep the right ones.

A true frend will stand up for you, and will always be there for you when you need them. A true friend, will like you for who you are, not for who they want you to be. Friendship between your friends need to be very strong. “ The power of friendship can not be broken!”

To be a good friend, you need to have sympathy, empathy, and honesty. You need to understand what the other is feeling. You need to be there when they need you, and like them for who there are. The same things apply to you too.

Friendship isn’t about whom you have known the longest… It’s about who came, and never left your side…

This is very true. If you had a friend that you knew for so long, but they do not have the things, a good friend has, and are “evil” to you, than that is not a true friend, but a friend that you knew for not as long, and is really good to you, is a true friend.

So I hope you learned a lot about friendship, and and you will make the right choices.

I Wish I Lived in Ancient…………..

Standard

I wish I lived in Ancient Egypt because, I could go visit places that I have always wanted to go, like the Nile River. I can just imagine a trip to the river collect water, or to wash clothes. I could also see the pyramids and I would have learned the peoples languages and lived in their homes.

I could go see the pyramids. The large pyramids, that have been there for so many centuries. I don’t know if I could go inside, but even if I can’t then a could have still seen the massive structures for myself ! If i could go inside, then i would be able to see the great old mummies, although they sometimes scare me, or gross me out, it would be a great experience.

In ancient Egypt I would have learned the peoples language. Their way of communication. Maybe they used pictures to tell each other things. I also would have learned to write  in hieroglyphics which would be amazing.

I would have got to live in the homes in ancient Egypt. They are very large. Yeah, they are not perfect, and beautiful, as you would want them, but in that time, those house, were the best.

So those are the reasons that I wish to live in ancient Egypt.

Why Children Should Eat Healthy

Standard

Do you prefer a popsicle over a carrot? If your answer is yes, then one day you are going to regret it. In my opinion, everyone should eat healthy, especially children. If you eat unhealthy food ( food containing excessive fat, salt, and sugar which are commonly referred as ‘junk food’), you may not see bad effects immediately, but when you grow older, then the health problems will start knocking your door. Do you want more details on why children should eat healthy? Then read on.

In this essay, you’ll find three convincing reasons why you should be eating healthy food:

  1. If you eat healthy, then your body will get enough nutrients, and you will be able to study better in school. How do you do it?At first, you need to eat a healthy breakfast. Without that your brain will not function properly, and I can tell you that your day will not be as good as you expect. In any ways, breakfast at home can be as easy as 1-2-3! Now, the question is how to make your breakfast healthy?

Have you ever heard the saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away?” That is true. An apple is a great fruit to start off your day. Do you want to know why? Well, it is because an apple has vitamins, which are good for you. These vitamins give you energy, keep your heart beating, keep your brain active, and your muscles working. Our body is just like a machine, it needs good fuels to work, just like other machines do. They don’t just run on anything. Water is one of the very important component of our body. It is needed to stay healthy, or to even survive. If you don’t have water in your system, then your body suffers from something called “Dehydration”. So, drink a lot of water, instead of sugary soda (pop) drinks. Eating foods with lots of nutrients also lowers the risks of some types of diseases. Nutrients are needed in your body from all the four food groups. So live a healthy life, with healthy food.

A lot of resources are available on the internet like Health Canada has provided national leadership, in nutritions since the 1930s. It is also recognized as the authoritative source, of nutrition information. See, there are so many places where people care, about your health, and are willing to help you take care of it. So, stay healthy!

  2. The second reason, that you should eat healthy, is because, you need to stay fit. Nowadays, obesity among children is a big problem. Obesity makes immune systems weaker and can’t fight off deseases. Some children are even born without an immune system, so eating healthy food is even more important for them. These children need to stay in a special room, where there is not even a spec of dust, and if the get sick, the will not get better.

Junk food is considered the first reason behind obesity. With the increase of junk food eating, the number of obese children is growing. Now a days, most parents are very busy, and try to feed their children in the fastest way possible. This leads to children having pre packed, and fast food, containing more sugar and salt in their daily life. Excessive sugar and salt are the main causes for diabetes, and heart problems.

  3. The last reason that you should eat healthy, is because your body, especially your bones and teeth will grow strong, and you will get enough energy to move around. For that to happen, you need calcium in your body. Where do you get that from? Milk products! Did you know that people say, “milk” is natures wellness drink? Well I think that they are right. Milk can keep you well. Now, you may be wondering, ‘what is calcium?’ Well you are about to find out.

Calcium is most common mineral found in your body, and in most foods. It is used by the nerves, muscles, teeth, and bones. It is found in products such as milk.

In conclusion, eating anything is not enough, eating healthy food is very important, specially for children, as they need to grow healthy, strong and smart.
